Busan is South Korea's laid-back coastal capital of cool — a sprawling port city where forested mountains tumble down to golden beaches, colourful hillside villages spill toward the sea, and buzzing seafood markets sit beside sleek skyscrapers. More relaxed than Seoul and blessed with a milder climate, it offers big-city energy with the beach always close at hand.
Busan enjoys a mild, humid climate with warm summers, cool winters that rarely see heavy snow, and a rainy spell in midsummer. It has a friendly, growing international community and a teaching scene that draws people in with its quality of life. Korean is the language of daily life, but English is taught everywhere and widely used in international schools, while world-class public transport, ultra-fast internet and a famously safe, convenient lifestyle make settling in remarkably easy.

Spas, BBQ & Nightlife
Soak in a traditional jjimjilbang spa, grill your own Korean BBQ, then dive into the bars and clubs of Seomyeon and Gwangalli, where the night runs late.
Getting Around
Busan is spread along the coast and over hills, but its transport is superb. The metro is clean, cheap and signed in English, complemented by an extensive bus network and a single tap-and-go T-money card that works on everything. Taxis are plentiful and affordable, and the KTX bullet train whisks you to Seoul in under three hours. Most journeys around the city cost barely more than a dollar.
When to Go
Spring (April to May) and autumn (September to November) are ideal, with mild, sunny weather, cherry blossoms or fiery foliage, and lively festivals. Summers are hot, humid and busy on the beaches, with a rainy season in July, while winters are cold but dry and rarely snowy — comfortable for sightseeing.
