Doha is Qatar's dazzling, fast-rising capital on the Persian Gulf — a city where a futuristic skyline of glittering towers rises beside a traditional dhow harbour, world-class museums line a breezy waterfront Corniche, and the desert and sea are never far away. Safe, spotless and remarkably cosmopolitan, it has transformed in a single generation into one of the most modern and rewarding cities in the Middle East.
Doha has a hot desert climate, with warm, glorious winters and long, intensely hot summers. It is home to a huge international community — the vast majority of residents are expats — with English spoken almost everywhere alongside Arabic. A tax-free salary, a very high standard of living, excellent new infrastructure and a famously safe, family-friendly environment make it one of the most popular places in the Gulf to live and teach.

Getting Around
Doha is built for cars, but you don't need one. The gleaming, fully automated Doha Metro is fast, cheap and air-conditioned, ride-hailing apps (Uber and Careem) and metered taxis are inexpensive, and Karwa water taxis skim across the bay. The city is flat, modern and compact, and a metro-linked tram serves the Lusail and Education City districts.
When to Go
November to April is the prime season, with warm, sunny days, balmy evenings and a packed calendar of sport and festivals. Summers (June to September) are extremely hot and humid, often topping 45°C, so life moves indoors to the malls, museums and air-conditioned everything.
